Built with a dual-core processor, an AES-NI hardware encryption engine, and Btrfs filing system support, the DiskStation DS220+ 2-Bay NAS Enclosure from Synology may be a compact NAS designed to streamline your data and multimedia management. It features smooth data sharing, video streaming, and photo indexing, also as well-rounded data protection and recovery options. The DS220+ is provided with two drive bays that are capable of natively supporting 3.5″ SATA hard drives, also as 2.5″ SATA hard drives and SSDs. Using its two drive bays, this NAS will allow you to store and share an outsized number of files with up to 2048 user accounts and 1500 maximum concurrent connections.

The DS220+ runs on Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM) OS, which may be a browser-based OS which helps to simplify managing your Synology NAS. Its CPU may be a 2.0 GHz Intel Celeron J4025 Dual-Core with a burst frequency of up to 2.9 GHz, and its 2GB of DDR4 RAM, which may be upgraded to 6GB, allows frequently used files and applications to be quickly accessed. Using its Gigabit Ethernet port, this NAS is capable of sequential reads of up to 225.98 MB/s and sequential writes of up to 192.21 MB/s, also as encrypted reads of up to 225.99 MB/s and encrypted writes of 195.2 MB/s.

Also featured are two USB 3.0 Type-A ports which permit it to be connected to your host system, and network connectivity is achieved via the twin integrated Gigabit Ethernet ports that support link aggregation and failover, allowing your stored data to be shared with users throughout the network. Data can also be made remotely available through the free iOS and Android applications. For those that require RAID support, the DS220+ supports RAID 0 and 1, also Synology Hybrid RAID and Basic RAID, each of which offers performance, data redundancy, or a mixture of both. For those that don’t require a RAID, JBOD is additionally available, allowing each drive bay to be individually utilized.

The DS220+ is engineered to be energy efficient. Not only does it offer a 92 x 92mm fan to assist keep the system running cool in the least times, its noise dampening design, with a rating of 19.3 dBA, makes for quiet operations. The server supports numerous scheduled power on/off cycles and disk drive hibernation to further minimize power consumption and operation expenses.
